The Long Arm Of The Lost

The first step is the hardest... if you can live through that, you can keep on walking.

Abandoned building, purpose unknown, situated between Fishkill Creek and the (unused?) train tracks in Beacon, NY.

I wasn't sure quite how to categorize this; I chose "suspended structures" because that is the most interesting element of this photograph, to me. I have no idea what this building could possibly have been for, or why it has a 2nd-storey door that opens to a long iron bar...

The bar reaches as far as the train tracks, thought the end of it was hidden by leaves. I wonder whether this might have once been a mail distribution thing... perhaps the mail was pushed out onto that bar and picked up by the train as it went by...
